The Aviv Quartet invites us to immerse ourselves in the great masterpieces of the string quartet. The magical alchemy of this formation has held a fascination for many composers.

Joseph Haydn, an eighteenth-century Austrian composer, is regarded as the father of the quartet. In Op. 20 No. 4, the elegant lines of classicism are set against the breath of the 'Sturm und Drang' inspired by the spirit of the Enlightenment.

We will then be immersed in Beethoven's op.132, one of his masterpieces with unrivalled spiritual and metaphysical dimensions. Beethoven's Op.132 opens with four mysterious notes, an enigmatic motto that the writer Romain Rolland called the 'Sphinx question'. These four notes became the subject of the theme of the monumental Great Fugue op.133 that closes the cycle of these quartets, and are in a way the key to understanding this musical edifice. The central movement, "Heiliger Dankgesang", is a great mystical musical prayer of thanks that Beethoven addressed to the divinities after his recovery from a difficult illness.

Invited to perform on the greatest international stages, the Aviv Quartet has won acclaim for its highly expressive interpretations and musical depth. Their most recent CD, released on the Aparte label, is devoted to Schubert's last quartets and has won numerous awards.
