Linocutting is a three-stage process. First, you have to draw; then you have to engrave a linoleum plate; and finally, you have to print. This is the medium Sandra Marongiu has chosen to share her vision of Geneva, the city she has lived in all her life and is particularly fond of on her walks. Each of her linocuts is unique. Although the plate is identical for each series, the handmade printing process, combined with the grain of the paper, gives each engraving its own personality.
Workshop for children
Once you've created a drawing, you have to engrave it on a plate using a tool called a gouge. Then comes the magic moment when, thanks to a roller and ink, you see your drawing appear on the plate. All that's left to do then is to press a piece of paper onto it, and voila, a handmade print! So, are you ready to start again?
